Valerie Coffin Price
Valerie has exhibited extensively, both nationally and internationally, recent solo exhibitions including The River Next Door (2015), Intimate Cartographies (2011), Distant Voices (2007) and Territoires (2003). Her work responding to wild and remote landscapes has taken her as far afield as Russia (1990), Québec (1998, 2002, 2003) and Cambodia (2005), but always comes back to a close and intimate relationship to river and border landscapes in Wales and along the English border.
Working with issues to do with the environment, language and cultural identity her work responds creatively to the language of poetry and place. In particular, she has been looking at the act of journeying, where to journey is to explore and discover cultural traces embedded in the land. These traces include fragments of objects, memories, history and remnants of text and sound. It is these ‘unseen paths’ that connect us to nature, to the liminal, to the invisible world of currents, winds, ideas and language.
