My work engages with the experience of landscape, mediated through drawing and photography. I have made a number of works for commission, and have attended several international carving Symposia, including events in China, Holland, and at Horice in the Czech Republic.
My current interest is an examination of particular places in the Powys landscape, these are sites that reveal something of the past either through evidence of occupation, castle sites for instance, or old industrial sites, or simply the winding course of a river. Drawings recall these memories and possible forms caught by changing light, fleeting hints of shapes on a hill or rocks in a stream.
Recent works are concerned with casting in bronze and iron, carving in wood and stone; the imagery continuing to test out simple forms drawn from the landscape, circles, spirals, ship shapes, symmetries and staircases seem to prevail, objects revealed by light, a testing of our temporary place in the world. Titles often play with the names of places, of familiar roads , a way of locating a portable work to somewhere it might more firmly belong.
