Karin Mear

I work from my studio in Aberdare and my work is based on my recollections of growing up in a South Wales mining valley and observations of historical and contemporary everyday life in Wales. I use found objects such as iron relics found on abandoned industrial sites along with domestic objects which evoke a memory or an emotional response. I’ve been told that my sculptures often have a witty or satirical element, but this often belies the serious and sometimes dark narrative that I’m trying to convey.

I’m a member of The Welsh Group and a committee member of Women’s Arts Association Wales. I teach painting to several community groups and also run occasional private workshops.
