Gwyneth Price
I carve wood and stone, and occasionally make casts from clay models.
My childhood in South Africa does sometimes colour my work – the mixing together of materials, the use of vertically piled forms. Ideas come from the observation of natural and human forms, constant drawing, and sudden connections.
I enjoy the physical action of carving in to materials and the way in which the particular character of each piece of wood or stone makes a sort of ongoing dialogue of small decisions necessary, so the finished piece is different from the first plan. I try to find a calm rightness, a feeling of grace and energy.
I am also a member of The Vale of Glamorgan Artists www.vogavaleart.org
