PROFILE
Sculpture is the most evocative of the art forms,
and it is a desire to produce sculptural works that are based
upon this aspiration that lies behind the work that I produce.
I primarily work from the figure, through the use of either abstraction
or realism, which allows themes to cover a breadth of concerns,
be they emotional, physiological or cultural etc, and to address
the concerns of movement, form and spacial concerns which are
intrinsic to the subject of sculpture.
I draw influence from the traditions of the art form that I participate
in through to elements of contemporary culture that affect us
all, with further influences from such sources as literature,
mythology and psychology. We cannot avoid our environment, mechanization
and technologic advances, and it is evident that our exposure
to these effects the way in which we interpret the world.
Peter Walker’s sculpture has been described as “absorbing” and “powerful” and
has been tipped for “potential international significance” and “success
on the world market”.
2000 saw the unveiling of his first major sculptural work, a
Monument to Sir Izaac Walton, author of “The Complete Angler”,
one of the most important writers in English Literature.
2005 saw the unveiling of a second major public work in Burton
upon Trent. He is currently engaged on a number of significant sculpture
projects around the UK.
