NAME: Matthew Tomalin

PROFILE:

I have spent much of my working life using metals of all kinds, and metals  - though we may now take them for granted  - are important.  Cast iron is now my main material and I run a small, largely one-person iron foundry at my studio.  Carving directly into sand moulds allows the interplay of detailed or reflecting surfaces with a bold, rough and ready industrial material.
