NAME: Justine
Johnson
PROFILE:
My work in general is grounded in technical discipline and in
everyday experience. I am looking to transform familiar experience,
nature and artefacts into objects that transcend their origin
and evoke emotional, spiritual, personal, universal and sometimes
comical responses, which I manipulate through the acquired knowledge
and skills of the artist. I see this as a type of alchemy.
Justine was born 1960 in Orange California; she studied at San
Francisco State University where she received a bachelor of arts
in theatre after that she went to Japan to study with artist
Hiroshi Hashida. Worked in Hong Kong as a designer. Also she
worked for the UNHCR using art as a tool for expression with
Vietnamese refugee.
She moved to Wales in 1992 with her architect husband Chris Griffiths.
She gained a Bachelor of Arts degree in sculpture and printmaking
at West Wales’s School of Art. Masters of Fine Art from
Middlesex, London. Justine has participated in many group and
solo exhibitions.
Most recent selected young curators, Oriel Davis Gallery, and
Newtown, Washington Gallery, Penarth, and invited artist, Iron
Tribe sculpture exhibition, New Mexico.
