SCULPTURE CYMRU; Sculptors in Wales
OUTDOOR EXHIBITION OF CONTEMPORARY CAST IRON ART
Applications
Applications have been invited from artists working in cast iron, or using an element of cast iron, to be considered for an international exhibition of cast iron art to be held at Kidwelly Castle in South Wales, UK. The exhibition will run from May to September 2010 and will be in place for the 6th International Conference of Contemporary Cast Iron Art. The conference will be held at Kidwelly Industrial Museum from 7th to 11th July 2010. www.internationalfe10.com
The Site
The exhibition will be held within the walls and amongst the buildings of Kidwelly Castle, which dates from the 10th century and is a dramatic fort overlooking the river Gwendraeth and Kidwelly town. www.cadw.wales.gov.uk and www.castlewales.com/kidwelly

Selection
The exhibition will be selected by Wilfred Cass OBE, (the co-founder and Director of Goodwood Sculpture Park, Sussex, UK), in consultation with the Cadw Inspectorate.
Fees
Five large and ten small works will be selected. It is envisaged that artists' fees will be £1000 GBP for larger works and £500 GBP for smaller works.
Catalogue
There will be a catalogue, which will provide each artist with two pages for images of their work and for their statement.
Kidwelly Castle is a historic building in the care of Cadw, the Welsh Assembly Government's Historic Environment Service. When considering their proposal, artists should take the following into account:
- Any artist wishing to make a site visit must contact Jan Morgan on janetparcmaen@sky.com to make arrangements.
- No mechanical fixings will be allowed either to the ground or to the fabric of the buildings
- Access is via an entrance measuring H 15’ W 6’
- Work may stand or hang in such a way that a non-metallic buffer is in place to keep metal and stonework apart. Sculpture Cymru with the Cadw Inspectorate will be finally responsible during the placements of the work, for these arrangements; however artists are free to supply suggestions
- Work may be placed within the former window or fireplace openings
- Security cannot be guaranteed as the castle is open to the public every day and neither the exhibition nor the site as a whole is supervised at all times. The castle is locked at night, but complete security cannot be guaranteed because not all of the original outer wall has survived
- Applicants may state a preference for a particular location within the castle, or a type of location (for example, a window opening), but the preferred position cannot be promised as the final decision on placing will be taken by the curator in conjunction with the Cadw inspectorate
- Successful artists will be asked to provide evidence that their work is covered by insurance for third party liability, to£5,000,000GBP ( and in the case of work from outside the UK that the insurance does extend to the UK).
